Saints selected Nebraska T Marcel Jones with the No. 234 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
An injury riddles career at Nebraska makes Jones a risk as a late-round pick. His length and frame is attractive but Jones’ post season workouts were terrible, running a lumbering 5.67 Combine forty and only 13 bench press reps. His development was stunted in college due to nagging injuries, but maybe he will finally stay healthy in the NFL.
  • FA Defensive Back
Saints agreed to terms with fifth-round CB Corey White and seventh-round OT Marcel Jones on four-year contracts.
Coming from small-school Samford, the Saints plan to let White compete with Johnny Patrick for nickel duties in camp. It’s a battle Patrick should easily win, leaving White to play primarily special teams as a rookie. Jones is a massive 6-foot-6, 320 pounds, but had a poor Combine following an injury-marred college career. He’s likely ticketed for the practice squad.
  • FA Wide Receiver #87
Saints released WR Adrian Arrington and placed OT Marcel Jones on injured reserve.
Arrington was dealing with a minor knee injury this week in practice and wasn’t expected to play in Week 1. Jones, a seventh-round pick out of Nebraska, was also dealing with a knee injury. The moves open up a roster spot for defensive end Will Smith to return from suspension. Joe Morgan will be the No. 4 receiver on Sunday.
