Tevaseu

Tevaseu played just 2-of-65 snaps Monday night after being promoted from the practice squad last week. Rookie Kenrick Ellis has more promise in the designated run-stopper role.

Tevaseu is getting promoted back to the active roster just four days after being waived. He was on the field for only two snaps in Monday’s win over the Dolphins, and should be in for similarly limited use on Sunday.

Tevaseu is a stout 6-foot-2, 325 pounds, but has appeared in just five career games since being an undrafted free agent out of UNLV in 2009. With Brandon McKinney out for the season, Tevaseu will provide depth behind Antonio Johnson.

Tevaseu was carted to the locker room, and is almost certainly done for the day. A reserve defensive tackle, Tevaseu has three tackles through four games.

Tevaseu looks the part of a prototype 3-4 nose tackle at 6-foot-2, 325, but hasn’t played in an NFL game since going undrafted out of UNLV two years ago. The Jets are getting gashed by the run, and Tevaseu might be able to help.

A situational run stopper, Tevaseu appeared in 13 games in 2012, starting two. He made 12 tackles across 224 snaps. Reitz was an adventure at left guard last season, and would ideally be upgraded.

Vaughn and Linkenbach combined to start 19 games for the Colts last season, but if Indianapolis is to take the next step, then both of them will be limited to backup roles in 2013. The Colts will also tender offers to exclusive rights free agents CB Josh Gordy, NT Martin Tevaseu, and OG Joe Reitz.

The Jets will use Tevaseu as defensive line depth, specifically for insurance behind DE Shaun Ellis (knee). Trufant played limited snaps during his brief stint on the active roster.

Even after 2.5 sacks in three preseason games, Maybin was reportedly considered a luxury, only to be kept on the roster if nobody better showed up. Trufant, a former UFL star, had just been re-signed last week.
