Bears waived or released QB Matt Blanchard, DT John McCargo, S Trevor Coston, LB K.C. Asiodu, and WR Terrian Crump.
They also waived/injured LB Adrien Cole and G Nick Peischel. McCargo is the only vested veteran here. Coston, Cump, and Blanchard were camp bodies.
  • FA Quarterback #2
Bears waived QB Matt Blanchard with an injury settlement.
Blanchard fractured a knuckle on his non-throwing hand in the second preseason game. He did have a shot to stick on the practice squad prior to the injury. The Bears have since signed Trent Edwards as their No. 3 quarterback.
  • FA Quarterback #2
Bears third-string QB Matt Blanchard has been diagnosed with a fractured knuckle.
Although the injury is to Blanchard’s left (non-throwing) hand, it severely dents his roster chances. Coach Marc Trestman hinted the team will sign another quarterback. The Bears worked out JaMarcus Russell, Trent Edwards and Jordan Palmer earlier this summer. Considering Jay Cutler’s recent fragility, we’d guess the Bears would like to carry three quarterbacks.

ESPN Packers reporter Rob Demovsky said QB Matt Blanchard is “so far ahead of Brett Hundley at this point.”
Once considered a first-round talent, Hundley failed to improve his stock in his junior year at UCLA, falling all the way to the fifth round. Now he’s a distant fourth on the Packers’ depth chart behind Blanchard, a former undrafted free agent who has yet to appear in an NFL game. Scott Tolzien is locked into the No. 2 spot behind last year’s NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers.
  • FA Quarterback #2
    Packers signed QB Matt Blanchard.
Blanchard (6'3/225) has an above-average arm but hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since entering the league as a 2012 UDFA out of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He slides in as the No. 3 behind Aaron Rodgers and Scott Tolzien.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Chad Henne completed 14-of-28 passes for 193 yards with one touchdown and one interception in Sunday’s Week 2 loss at Washington.
Henne was terrible as expected and held onto the ball too long, but he never had a chance as he was sacked an absurd 10 times. He did have Allen Hurns drop a wide-open bomb early on. Still, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the Jags will have to make a move to Blake Bortles sooner rather than later -- offensive line woes or not.
