Palmer appeared in all 16 games last season, making 10 catches for 72 yards and a touchdown. He also chipped in two special teams tackles. Smith was active 12 times, but played primarily on special teams, receiving zero carries.

Palmer went down during last week’s win in San Diego. Blocker Tommy Gallarda is next up behind Tony Gonzalez, but practice squadder Chase Coffman could get the call.

Palmer, 25, has appeared in 43 career games as a blocking tight end. An undrafted free agent in 2010, Palmer spent the last three seasons in Atlanta.

Palmer just signed with the Giants last weekend after spending his first three seasons with the Falcons. Dennard spent all of 2012 on the Jaguars’ practice squad. The Giants signed TE Morgan Newton in a corresponding move.

Claimed off waivers last August, Palmer is a blocking specialist.

DT Martin Parker was signed in a corresponding move. A blocking tight end, Palmer made it just two weeks in Seattle after being waived by the Giants in May. Palmer appeared in 43 games for the Falcons from 2010-12, but isn’t looking terribly likely to set foot on an NFL field this season.

Palmer, 25, joins his fourth team in the calendar year. He’s nothing more than a blocking specialist and faces long odds to crack the roster.

A long shot to make the team out of training camp, the undrafted rookie from Clemson hauled in a five yard laser from Matt Ryan to further increase the Falcons’ lead. It’s a nice story, but it would take a Tony Gonzalez injury to register Palmer on the fantasy radar.

The local product was signed as an undrafted free agent this offseason out of Clemson.
