De Jesus, 25, went unclaimed after being designated for assignment. The right-hander posted a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings with a lively arm, so it was a bit surprising another team didn’t give him a shot.

It clears room on the 40-man roster for Zack Logue, who was claimed Friday by the Tigers from the Athletics. The 25-year-old posted a 2.13 ERA in 12 2/3 innings over eight appearances, and a bullpen-needy team could put in a claim for the right-hander over the coming days.

De Jesus has been summoned to replace an injured Joe Jiménez (back) in the Tigers’ bullpen for the final week-plus of the regular season.

He’s being replaced on the roster by Andrew Chafin, who is back from the restricted list.

De Jesus will take Michael Pineda’s spot on the active roster as Pineda heads to the injured list with a right triceps issue. The 25-year-old right-hander has tossed just 3 2/3 innings with Detroit this season, giving up two runs while striking out three.

De Jesus allowed two runs over 1 2/3 relief innings during his lone appearance with the big club during his most recent stint. The Tigers will make a corresponding move Saturday.

With José Cisnero heading to the bereavement list on Friday, the Tigers needed a bullpen replacement, so De Jesus will get his shot. The 25-year-old hurler holds a 5.40 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 29/13 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 innings at Triple-A this season.

De Jesus is sent down after he pitched on Saturday in the blowout win of game one’s doubleheader against the Rockies. He’ll be an up-and-down arm all year.

De Jesus will join the Detroit bullpen on Wednesday night against the visiting Yankees, looking to make his MLB debut at age 25. He has a career 2.91 ERA and 311 strikeouts in 256 2/3 minor league innings.

De Jesus was added to the Tigers’ 40-man roster last November and will open the 2022 season on the doorstep of the big leagues. The 25-year-old righty posted a solid 3.34 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 80/37 K/BB ratio across 64 2/3 innings (44 appearances, three starts) last year between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo.
