    Rays released 1B Bob Seymour.
The Rays announced that it was a release to allow Seymour to pursue an opportunity to play in Asia. He put up monster numbers in the minors, but was awful in his limited chances with the Rays as seen in a .535 OPS in his 83 plate appearances once he joined Tampa Bay. The 27-year-old should be able to put up some monster power numbers in Japan or Korea.
  • TB Center Fielder #26
Rays designated OF Kameron Misner, LHP Nate Lavender, RHP Brian Van Belle and 1B Bob Seymour for assignment.
There simply isn’t any room for Misner and Seymour with Tampa Bay’s crowded positional mix moving forward, but they should generate some interest on waivers in the coming days. Misner offers some appeal as a righty-mashing platoon specialist while Seymour makes sense as a bench bat.
  • TB 1st Baseman #41
Bob Seymour went 0-for-4 and struck out three times against the Orioles on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Seymour is batting just .186/.219/.271 with one homer and a 21/2 K/BB in 73 plate appearances since being called up. It doesn’t bode well for his chances of sticking on the Rays’ 40-man roster this winter. After all, the team will be getting Jonathan Aranda back to pair with Yandy Díaz between first base and DH.
  • TB 1st Baseman #2
Yandy Díaz is not in the starting lineup for the Rays on Thursday against the White Sox.
It’s a routine day off for Díaz, who has had one of his best seasons ever with a career-high 23 home runs and 78 RBI to go along with a .292/.350/.474 slash line. Of course, playing your home game in a minor league ballpark will help with the power production. Bob Seymour will start at first base and bat sixth on Thursday.
  • TB Left Fielder #1
Rays activated OF Richie Palacios from the 60-day injured list.
Palacios has played in just one major league game this season after missing the start of the year with a fractured finger and the bulk of the remainder with knee issues. He should get quite a few starts against right-handers and maybe offer some value in AL-only leagues. Bob Seymour and Everson Pereira could lose at-bats to him.
  • TB 1st Baseman #2
Yandy Díaz is on the bench for Sunday’s series finale against the Nationals.
It appears to be a routine off day for Díaz, who matched his previous career-high mark in the home run department earlier this week when he smashed his 22nd long ball of the year. The 34-year-old gets a breather with rookie Bob Seymour drawing a start at the cold corner to face Nationals youngster Brad Lord.
  • TB 1st Baseman #41
Bob Seymour is out of the Rays lineup against a right-hander Wednesday for the first time since being promoted.
Seymour, who is already sitting versus lefties, is 6-for-28 with one homer and a 12/1 K/BB since getting the call on Aug. 15. The Rays have Josh Lowe at DH and Everson Pereira in the outfield today against the Guardians.
  • TB 1st Baseman #41
Bob Seymour went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Wednesday against the Yankees.
After starting his career 1-for-12, Seymour socked his first career home run in this game and chipped in another run-scoring hit later to notch his first multi-hit game as well. He has a very boom or bust profile with tremendous power along with plenty of swing-and-miss, which make him at least mildly interesting should he continue to get near everyday at-bats.

Rays selected the contract of 1B Bob Seymour from Triple-A Durham.
Seymour officially joins the Rays after hitting 30 homers and forging a .263/.327/.553 slash in Triple-A Durham. The 2021 13th round pick certainly has impressive raw power, but the other tools are a bit of a question mark. Those who need to play catch-up in the homer category may want to take a closer look, but there’s a lot of risk that comes with the reward.
  • TB 1st Baseman
The Rays are calling up Bob Seymour in advance of Friday’s game, according to the Tampa Bay Times’ Marc Topkin.
The 26-year-old Seymour has been one of the best sluggers in Triple-A this season, hitting .263/.327/.553 with 30 homers and a 114/38 K/BB in 443 plate appearances for Durham. The Rays will likely use him at DH and first base against right-handers until Jonathan Aranda gets back. They have been mixing and matching in the DH spot lately, with Chandler Simpson starting there Wednesday. Tristan Peters could head back to Triple-A. It’s unlikely that Seymour will offer mixed-league value, but AL-only leaguers in need of some power could try him.
