Casey Schmitt has been diagnosed with a Grade 2 left oblique strain and will miss at least four weeks.
Schmitt landed on the injured list last weekend and will be out until at least mid-May. His extended absence gives David Villar some additional runway to carve out a role at the highest level in a reserve role.

Giants placed INF Casey Schmitt on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain.
As expected, Schmitt hit’s the injured list after suffering the strain in the batting cage before Friday’s tilt against the Angels. The 26-year-old will be out of action for the next couple weeks with David Villar taking his roster spot.

Casey Schmitt went 2-for-3 and blasted his third home run of the spring on Sunday as the Giants rallied to beat the Cubs 8-6 in their Cactus League affair.
Schmitt got the Giants on the board in the second inning as he walloped a two-out solo shot off of Jameson Taillon to even the score at 1-1. He also singled off of Caleb Thielbar in the sixth inning. With the two-hit attack, the 26-year-old infielder is hitting .286 (8-for-28) with three long balls and six RBI on the spring.

Casey Schmitt belted a two-run homer on Wednesday as the Giants and Cubs played to a 2-2 stalemate in Cactus League action.
There’s no real avenue for Schmitt to secure regular playing time in San Francisco after the club re-signed third baseman Matt Chapman and brought in veteran shortstop Willy Adames during the offseason. The 25-year-old figures to open the year back at Triple-A Sacramento as extra infield depth unless he can beat out Brett Wisely for a bench role.

Casey Schmitt went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored on Sunday against the Cardinals.
Schmitt was the only Giants’ hitter to muster up an extra-base hit in this one off Cardinals’ starter Michael McGreevy as their lineup limped to the finish line. He didn’t even start this game, but came in for Matt Chapman who left to a nice ovation from the home fans in San Francisco. Schmitt is unlikely to get serious playing time in 2025 with Chapman’s recent contract extension.

Casey Schmitt is starting at third base for the Giants on Thursday and batting eighth.
Since being recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday, Schmitt has started two straight games at third base with Brett Wisely shifting to the bench, which is notable since both games have come against right-handed pitchers and Wisely bats left-handed. Schmitt has hit just .213 with five home runs in 89 at-bats at the MLB level this year but was slashing .274/.343/.469 in 74 games at Triple-A with 13 home runs and 11 steals. He could provide some deep league value in the final week if he keeps the job.

Schmitt is up to take the roster spot of Matt Chapman, with Chapman placed on the paternity list in the corresponding move. Schmitt will likely only be with the team for three days.

Giants optioned INF Casey Schmitt to Triple-A Sacramento.
San Francisco is going to roll with former top prospect Marco Luciano in a reserve roll over Schmitt for the foreseeable future.

Casey Schmitt homered and went 3-for-4 in a victory over Atlanta on Thursday.
Schmitt’s homer doubled the lead for the Giants to 4-0 in the sixth inning. The 25-year-old also singled twice to help improve his slash to .208/.225/.442. There’s some pop in Schmitt’s bat, but there’s just not enough help in the other categories to recommend him as a fantasy player. Not now, anyway.
