Bernabel had a shot at Washington’s first-base vacancy after coming over on a minor league deal, but it appears to be trending towards Abimelec Ortiz handling the job at the moment. Still just 23, Bernabel will likely play at AAA if he sticks with the Nationals.

Nationals acquired INF Cayden Wallace and a Competitive Balance A pick from the Royals for RHP Hunter Harvey.

Wallace, 22, was the Royals’ second-round selection from the 2022 draft class. He has spent most of his 2024 season at Double-A Northwest Arkansas where he has slashed .282/.350/.427 with three homers, 16 RBI, two stolen bases (in five attempts) and a 26/9 K/BB ratio across 140 plate appearances. Expect him to begin his Nationals’ career at Double-A Harrisburg.
