Reds optioned RHP Chase Petty to Triple-A Louisville.
Petty returns to the minors after recording just two outs in relief during Saturday’s contest against the Cardinals. There’s no spot for him in the big leagues, especially with top prospect Chase Burns completing his meteoric rise to the majors in the less than one calendar year.

Reds recalled RHP Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville.
Petty is an illustrative example of the significant gap between Triple-A and the big leagues at the moment as he’s consistently dominated on the doorstep of the majors with a 2.76 ERA and 26.9 percent strikeout rate this season, while getting absolutely torched in a pair of spot starts for the Reds. The talent is there to succeed, but he’s not a recommended option for fantasy purposes when he makes a bulk relief appearance on Saturday against the division-rival Cardinals.
  • CIN Relief Pitcher #31
Brent Suter will open Saturday’s game against the Cardinals ahead of Chase Petty.
Suter will likely pass the baton to pitching prospect Chase Petty for a bulk relief outing after facing formidable lefties Brendan Donovan and Alec Burleson in the opening frame.

Reds optioned RHP Chase Petty to Triple-A Louisville.
With Hunter Greene returning this weekend, the Reds no longer need Petty in the rotation, so they will opt for an extra bullpen arm over the next few days. Petty struggled in his two MLB starts, allowing 13 runs on 13 hits in 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts and eight walks. He’ll likely get another shot later in the season.

Chase Petty allowed four runs in three innings and took the loss against the Astros on Sunday.
Petty gave up six hits, walked six and struck out four. His ERA is up to 21.94 after two starts. While Petty possesses strikeout upside based on his Triple-A performance, he’s not getting enough outs in general for it to matter at the big league level right now. He’s best left on fantasy benches until he figures it out. Petty is lined up to face the Guardians at home next weekend if he remains in the rotation.

Chase Petty will start on Sunday against the Astros.
It’s a tough matchup for Petty, who was roughed up for nine runs over 2 1/3 innings back on April 30 in his big-league debut. The 22-year-old righty is coming off a dominant eight-strikeout performance in his latest start at Triple-A Louisville and offers enough strikeout upside to be interesting for fantasy purposes while Hunter Greene (groin) is on the injured list.

Reds recalled RHP Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville.
Petty will take the rotation spot that was vacated by the injured Hunter Greene (groin). The 22-year-old top prospect was hammered for nine runs on seven hits and two walks over 2 1/3 innings against the Cardinals in his big league debut at the end of April. If he stays on turn in Greene’s spot though, his first start would come on Tuesday against the White Sox which would make him very intriguing for fantasy purposes.

Reds RHP prospect Chase Petty struck out eight over six scoreless innings on Tuesday for Triple-A Louisville.
Petty generated 17 swinging strikes and turned in one of his strongest outings of the year just a couple days after getting lit up for nine runs over 2 1/3 innings by the Cardinals in his big-league debut. The hard-throwing 22-year-old is going to get another shot at some point in the near future, especially if he keeps pitching like this on the doorstep of the majors.

Chase Petty allowed seven hits and nine runs with two walks and three strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cardinals on Wednesday.
This was a disastrous debut for Petty. His day started by allowing a walk, single, a sharp line drive for an out, and then a 420 foot home run by Willson Contreras. It didn’t get any easier for him after that as the Cardinals tacked on again in the second inning and finally chased him in the third. They clobbered three balls with at least a 110 mph exit velocity and seven of their 11 total balls in play were hard-hit. It also didn’t help Petty that Gavin Lux looked completely lost out in left field, but those are the breaks. He did manage to force 10 swings-and-misses in his short outing, it just wasn’t enough to slow the Cardinals’ lineup down in any way. Since he was promoted to start the second game of a double-header, it’s unknown whether he will get another turn in the rotation.

Reds selected the contract of RHP Chase Petty from Triple-A Louisville.
Petty will make his major-league debut in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals. The 22-year-old former first-round pick throws hard and has recorded an impressive 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 27/9 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (five starts) this season for Triple-A Louisville. He’s worth monitoring in deeper mixed leagues based on his talent and strikeout potential, but he’s an extremely risky streaming option for fantasy managers right out of the gate.
