Braves purchased the contract of catcher Clint Sammons from Double-A Mississippi.
A fourth catcher for Atlanta. Sammons hit .249/.317/.364 between Single-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Mississippi. It’s unlikely that he’ll have a future as a backup.
  • ATL Catcher
Braves signed catcher Javy Lopez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Lopez, who starred from the Braves from 1992-2003, was out of the league last year after being cut by the Rockies in mid-March. He’ll compete with Clint Sammons and Brayan Pena for a spot backing up Brian McCann in Atlanta. Perhaps he can still be useful enough against lefties to contribute in a limited role.

Braves recalled catcher Clint Sammons from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Sammons was sent down to Triple-A Gwinnett last week after David Ross returned from the disabled list. He will serve as the primary backup to Ross in Brian McCann’s absence. He’s not worth fantasy consideration.
  • ATL Catcher #16
Braves activated C Brian McCann from the 15-day disabled list.
McCann is now a four-eyes, trying to see if glasses will allow him to regain the gift of sight, always important for a hitter. Clint Sammons was sent to Triple-A Gwinnett to make room for McCann. Obviously, given his earlier struggles, wait a bit and see if the McCann of old is back before starting him yourself.

Braves optioned catcher Clint Sammons to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Sammons is the roster casualty for the return of Brian McCann. Hopefully, you weren’t counting on him, as he is strictly backup material.

Braves optioned LHP Jo-Jo Reyes, C Clint Sammons and INF Diory Hernandez to Triple-A Gwinnett; reassigned RHP Tommy Hanson, C Alvin Colina, OF Jason Heyward, SS Brandon Hicks and 1B Freddie Freeman to minor league camp.
Reyes helped himself with a 2.08 ERA in 13 innings this spring, but the Braves decided against putting him in the mix for a spot in the bullpen. Reyes, Hanson and Charlie Morton likely will head a strong rotation at Gwinnett. Hanson had a 2.45 ERA in his 14 2/3 innings this spring. Fellow top prospect Heyward also impressed, huitting .300/.364/.475 in 40 at-bats.

Braves purchased the contract of OF Jordan Schafer; recalled C Clint Sammons from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Schafer will start on Opening Day, but he’ll probably hit eighth initially. Sammons was brought back to play behind Brian McCann with David Ross sidelined.

Braves optioned catcher Clint Sammons to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Sammons became expandable again when Davis Ross was activated from the disabled list. Sammons doesn’t have the bat to ever be fantasy relevant.

Braves recalled catcher Clint Sammons from Triple-A Gwinnett.
Sammons will serve as the Braves’ third catcher for the final month of the season. In other words, he carries absolutely no fantasy value. The 26-year-old hit just .214/.266/.344 in 299 Triple-A at-bats this season.

Clint Sammons went 3-for-4 with a homer and three RBI as the Braves defeated the Cardinals 9-4 on Thursday night.
Sammons was called up a few days ago to back up Corky Miller in the absence of Brian McCann. He had a big game tonight, as his two-run homer in the sixth inning broke a 4-4 tie and sent the Braves on their way to a comfortable victory, but considering he had a 608 OPS in Triple-A this performance was likely a mirage. Of course, being that Miller is a highly uninspiring option, Sammons could stay in the lineup until McCann returns.
