Darwin Cubillan hasn’t appeared in a game this spring because of tightness in his right shoulder.
Cubillan wouldn’t be a bad 12th man on a pitching staff, but even if he was healthy, he wasn’t going to win a roster spot on the Orioles.

Orioles purchased the contract of RHP Darwin Cubillan from Triple-A Ottawa.
Cubillan had a 4.02 ERA as Ottawa’s closer, but he can be an adequate reliever for the Orioles. Expect him to be used as a mop-up man.

Orioles re-signed RHP Darwin Cubillan, RHP Tim Corcoran and LHP Sean Spencer to minor league contracts.
Cubillan, who turns 29 next month, is the one pitcher here with a chance of pitching in the majors in 2004. He’s had a lot of success in Triple-A and probably would be an adequate middle reliever if given another extended opportunity. Spencer, 28, appeared briefly in the majors in 1999 and 2000. He and Corcoran both pitched for Double-A Bowie this year.

Orioles reassigned pitchers Darwin Cubillan and Mike Garcia, catcher Izzy Molina and infielder Eddy Garabito to minor league camp.
Unlike most teams, the Orioles have waited until the final week of the spring to cut a bunch of guys who had no chance to make the team. Cubillan and Garcia both did well in very limited action this spring and could be candidates to join the bullpen once injuries strike.

Cubillan couldn’t pass up an opportunity to become the all-time leader in appearances for the Ottawa Lynx. He’s only one short of tying Curt Schmidt at 128.
