Manning, 31, made his major league debut for the Brewers this year and was pounded in two starts. He’s strictly a Triple-A pitcher.

We didn’t see why Manning was called up in the first place or why he was allowed to make a second start after getting roughed up in the first one. If the Brewers wanted to leave Luis Martinez in the minors for a while longer, Doug Davis would have been the better option. Expect a change soon.

The Brewers didn’t immediately announce a replacement for Manning, who had a 16.20 ERA in two starts.

The 30-year-old Manning became the oldest pitcher to debut in the majors as a starter in five years (Masato Yoshii was 32 when he debuted April 5, 1998). He’ll probably be sent back to the minors tomorrow.

Manning had a 4.64 ERA in 16 starts and six relief appearances for Indianapolis. He’s probably only up for a little while. If he’s given a chance to replace Glendon Rusch in the rotation, expect him to struggle.

Manning doesn’t really bring anything to the table. If he has any success as a starting pitcher, it would be a surprise.
