Nationals signed 3B Dérmis Garcia to a minor league contract.
The deal presumably also includes an invitation to spring training. The 25-year-old infielder got into 39 games for the Athletics back in 2022, posting a .652 OPS with five homers in 125 plate appearances. He wound up compiling an .891 OPS with 12 homers and three steals in 45 contests for Triple-A Las Vegas prior to being released back in late June. He’ll likely open 2024 back at Triple-A Rochester.

    Athletics released 3B Dérmis Garcia.
Garcia was removed from the Athletics’ 40-man roster back in late April and has now been released altogether. He got into 39 contests last year for Oakland and was hitting .263/.359/.532 with 12 homers and three steals across 198 plate appearances this season for Triple-A Las Vegas.

Athletics sent 3B Dérmis Garcia outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Garcia went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 25-year-old infielder, who got into 39 games last year for Oakland, will remain with the Athletics as extra organizational depth.

Athletics designated INF Dérmis Garcia for assignment.
The A’s needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster after acquiring Sam Long from the Giants, and Garcia drew the short straw this time around. The 25-year-old hit .207/.264/.388 with five homers, 20 RBI and a 55/8 K/BB ratio over 125 plate appearances with the Athletics during the 2022 campaign. It’s likely he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and continue to function as depth for the A’s.

Athletics optioned 3B Dermis Garcia to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Garcia made his big league debut last year, getting into 39 contests for the Athletics, but had just three hits in 20 at-bats this spring to earn him a trip back to the upper minors. The 25-year-old corner infielder might wind up resurfacing at some point this year.

Dermis Garcia went 1-for-3 with a solo homer against the Mets on Friday.
The A’s couldn’t get much going against Chris Bassitt and the Mets on Friday. Garcia provided just the second run for Oakland with a solo homer off Bassitt in the eighth inning. It was the fifth of the season for the 24-year-old infielder. He’s hitting .232/.300/.476 with five homers and 18 RBI across 90 plate appearances.

Dermis Garcia went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four total RBI in Tuesday’s loss to the Rangers.
Garcia came up clutch twice in the contest, smacking a three-run homer off Cole Ragans in the top of the first inning and later collecting an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning. That fifth-inning knock would give the A’s a 7-2 advantage, one which they would proceed to squander over the back half of the contest. Ouch. On the whole this season, Garcia is slashing .288/.373/.538 with three homers and 12 RBI in 52 at-bats. Unless he can stay on a little hot groove over the final few weeks of the season, Garcia lacks for fantasy intrigue in most league formats.

Dermis García is not in the Athletics starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Orioles.
After starting in six consecutive games, García will get a well-deserved breather on Sunday afternoon. The 24-year-old has hit an impressive .308/.400/.538 with a pair of homers, seven RBI and an 18/5 K/BB ratio over 45 plate appearances through his first 15 games with the big league club. Vimael Machin is starting in his place at the hot corner and batting second for the A’s on Sunday.

Dermis Garcia homered and walked Wednesday in the loss to the Nationals.
Garcia’s homer off Aníbal Sánchez accounted for the Athletics’ lone run of the night. Garcia is 10-for-30 with two homers in his two stints with the A’s this year. It’s doubtful that he’ll offer much fantasy value the rest of the way, but the A’s might as well keep playing him fairly regularly.

Dermis Garcia went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI singles in Sunday’s 4-1 win over the Yankees.
Garcia singled home Stephen Vogt in the bottom of the first, and drove home Tony Kemp on a 97.1-mph single in the bottom of the third. The rookie first baseman is 8-for-24 (.333) to kick off his MLB career.
