It’ll be the first trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old southpaw. Tigers acquired LHP Drew Sommers from the Rays in exchange for RHP Mason Englert.
Sommers was an 11th round pick by the Rays in 2022, and the left-hander was able to strike out 65 hitters in 41 innings while posting a 4.00 ERA for High-A Bowling Green in 2024. He doesn’t project to be more than a middle-inning arm — if that — in the coming years.
