Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports that the Tigers plan to promote left-hander Drew Sommers from Triple-A Toledo prior to Friday’s series opener against the Royals.
The Tigers have been mixing and matching bullpen arms based on their opposition over the past few series and they wanted to add another left-hander to the mix against the Royals. It’ll be the first trip to the big leagues for the 25-year-old southpaw. Sommers has posted a 2.53 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a 63/16 K/BB ratio over 57 innings between Double-A Erie and Triple-A Toledo this season.
