Feltman

Back in 2018, the Red Sox drafted Feltman in the third round out of TCU, and the prevailing wisdom was that he would fly through the minors after a stellar career as a closer in college. He actually posted a 1.93 ERA in 23 1/3 innings in his first professional season, but then the wheels fell off a bit in 2019. Feltman bounced back after the COVID-19 shutdown, but a 7.63 ERA in 48 1/3 innings in 2022 got him released by the Red Sox, and then he was signed and subsequently released by the Athletics. The 29-year-old has been playing in the Independent Leagues and will now get another shot to make his MLB debut.

The 25-year-old hurler was a third-round pick of the Red Sox from the 2018 draft. He never lived up to his promise there, but this is still a talented right-handed arm that could be a nice find for the Athletics. He’ll add bullpen depth in the minor leagues for the time being, but don’t be surprised if he works his way up to get a shot in the big leagues before the end of the 2023 campaign.

He battled numerous injuries over the years while registering a 4.82 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10.8 K/9 over 177 1/3 innings in the minor leagues. It’s unclear if the 25-year-old hurler is going to look to catch on elsewhere, or if he’s ready to hang up his cleats and call it a career.

Faria signed a minor league contract last month with the Red Sox and will open the regular season at Triple-A Worcester as organizational relief depth.
