Knight

Knight came up short this spring in his bid for a spot in the Guardians’ season-opening bullpen and will head back out to free agency. The 32-year-old righty has made 13 relief appearances over the last two years between the Rays and Orioles.

Knight became a free agent this offseason after being outrighted off the Rays’ 40-man roster in September. The 32-year-old has posted a 7.32 ERA over 19 2/3 major league innings between the Rays and Orioles over the past two seasons. He’ll give Cleveland some additional bullpen depth going into camp this month.

Knight made six relief appearances this season for the Rays and has compiled a lackluster 7.32 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 20/9 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings over the last two years in the majors between the Rays and Orioles. The 32-year-old righty will test the free agent waters in search of a new opportunity.

Knight was waived earlier this season and went unclaimed. He accepted an assignment back to Triple-A Durham, where he’ll continue to serve as organizational depth for the Rays.

It’s the third time this season that Knight has been designated for assignment. He’ll likely clear waivers again.

Knight will return to the Rays’ bullpen on Wednesday night, replacing the injured Jalen Beeks. Knight, 32, has surrendered 15 runs -- 13 earned -- in just 16 2/3 career innings at the major league level.

Knight passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment on Sunday to open up a roster spot for Pete Fairbanks. The 31-year-old has allowed 15 runs -- 13 earned -- in 16 2/3 career MLB innings.

Knight was waived to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Pete Fairbanks, who returns from a partially-torn lat muscle. The 31-year-old right-hander recorded a 4.50 ERA with six strikeouts over eight innings with the Rays this season.

The right-hander gets sent down after Drew Rasmussen’s activation put them above the roster limit. The 31-year-old will likely be back as a bullpen option before the end of the year but is the definition of an up-and-down option.

Knight has been summoned to give the Rays’ bullpen some extra reinforcement leading into Saturday’s doubleheader against the Blue Jays. The 31-year-old righty has allowed two runs on four hits with a 4/3 K/BB ratio across 5 2/3 innings (three appearances) this season in the majors.
