Trea Turner (knee) was held out of the Phillies’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Twins.

The 33-year-old shortstop exited Saturday’s game after fouling a ball off of his right knee. While the injury doesn’t appear to be serious, the Phillies will give him an extra day to rest just to be on the safe side. Edmundo Sosa will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth for the Phillies against Twins’ right-hander Dean Kremer on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Kyle Schwarber is not in the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Marlins due to an illness.

Schwarber is dealing with a gastrointestinal issue and will return to Philadelphia’s lineup once he’s feeling better at some point this week. Bryce Harper takes a turn at designated hitter with Alec Bohm moving to first base and Edmundo Sosa entering the lineup at third base.

A late addition to the Phillies lineup with Kyle Schwarber out, Edmundo Sosa drove in five runs with a homer, a double and a groundout Tuesday against the Nationals.

They should just always tell him he’s filling in for Schwarber. It’s Sosa’s third career five-RBI game, which seems like a lot for a utilityman. He had one in 2021 and another last September in his stunning three-game against the Marlins. Following a rough May, Sosa is hitting .306/.333/.583 in 12 games this month.

Kyle Schwarber was a late scratch from the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Nationals with lower back tightness.

Schwarber, who leads the majors with 29 round-trippers across 75 games this season, was a late scratch just prior to first pitch at Nationals Park. It’ll be Edmundo Sosa taking over at DH in his place. The power-hitting 33-year-old is presumably day-to-day, but it’s worth noting that back issues can be complex matters. There should be an update on his status following the contest.

Edmundo Sosa (forearm) is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Nationals.

Sosa appears to have checked out fine following an early exit from Sunday night’s contest against the Mets when he was hit by a pitch on the forearm. The versatile 30-year-old is in left field and hitting fifth against Nationals southpaw Foster Griffin.

Edmundo Sosa left Sunday night’s game in the seventh inning after being hit on the forearm by a pitch.

This didn’t look like a big deal. Justin Crawford ran for him, which was probably a move the Phillies wanted to make anyway in order to improve the outfield defense with a 6-2 lead late in the game.

Trea Turner (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against the Marlins on Tuesday.

With Turner out, Brandon Marsh will hit leadoff, and Edmundo Sosa will play shortstop and hit ninth. Turner is considered day-to-day with a right wrist contusion and already had x-rays return negative, so there’s a good chance he’s back in the lineup in the coming days.

Edmundo Sosa went 3-for-4 and hit his fourth homer versus the Brewers on Saturday.

Sosa homered off Shane Drohan to start the scoring in the second. He had an interesting fifth inning in left field. Almost exclusively an infielder until this year, Sosa was tasked with handling a pair of liners to his right that he had to come in on. The first, hit by Brice Turang, resulted in a sliding catch on which Sosa took quite a divot with his cleats and seemed to jam his knee on. The second was hit to almost precisely the same spot, maybe even into the divot, for a single. On both, he looked like someone who’d much rather be playing second or third.

Bryson Stott is not in Philadelphia’s starting lineup on Friday against the White Sox.

It’ll be Edmundo Sosa against LHP Anthony Kay. Stott had started the last six games, including one against a left-hander, and has essentially been a full-time player under new manager Don Mattingly. It’s Sosa’s first start since May 27.

Edmundo Sosa hit a go-ahead two-run homer off Tanner Scott in the eighth inning Saturday as the Phillies bested the Dodgers 4-3.

The Phillies scored three times off Tanner Scott in the eighth. Sosa initially hit for Brandon Marsh against Alex Vesia in the sixth tonight, but he struck out then. He got another at-bat against a lefty in the eighth and made the most of it, hitting his third homer to give the Phillies a 4-3 lead. In spite of that, he’ll likely be back on the bench Sunday with the Dodgers starting a right-hander in Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
