Roberts will need to miss at least two weeks with the cut on his finger. The 28-year-old will be replaced on the roster by Ryan Rolison, with Rolison recalled in a corresponding move.

Roberts has one scoreless appearance for the Cubs this year and a 2.08 ERA in three games with Triple-A Iowa. After a strong spring training, perhaps Phil Maton’s injury is a window for him to establish himself enough at the big-league level to move beyond up/down reliever status. We shall see.

Roberts, 28, did everything in his power to earn a spot in the Cubs’ bullpen this spring, posting a 1.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and a 4/2 K/BB ratio over six innings in six Cactus League appearances. He was simply facing an uphill battle against a crowded bullpen mix. He should be one of the first options at Triple-A Iowa that gets a shot with the big league club.

Roberts’ latest stint with the Cubs lasted roughly 48 hours and didn’t include another relief appearance. The 28-year-old heads back to the minors to clear a roster spot for veteran starter Jameson Taillon.

Roberts returns to Chicago’s bullpen mix in the wake of closer Daniel Palencia hitting the injured list with a shoulder strain. The 28-year-old middle reliever has been hit hard in 10 appearances this season.

Roberts heads back to the minors after recording just two outs on Sunday in a relief outing against the Red Sox. The 28-year-old righty made just one appearance for the Cubs after being recalled back on July 9.

Roberts has been summoned to join Chicago’s bullpen mix with Porter Hodge heading to the injured list with a shoulder impingement. The 27-year-old righty has made nine relief appearances this season in the big leagues. He’ll operate in middle relief situations.

Roberts didn’t appear in a game in his short stint with the Cubs this time around. The 27-year-old will likely be back at some point, but for now he heads to Triple-A with Ryan Brasier (groin) activated off the injured list.

Roberts has a 5.40 ERA in 8 1/3 innings out of the Cubs pen this season. He’s at 4.85 in 42 2/3 career innings in relief since debuting with the Cubs in 2022.

Roberts returns to the minors ahead of Sunday night’s matchup against the Phillies after making nine relief appearances for the Cubs since early April.
