Athletics optioned RHP Eduarniel Nuñez to Triple-A Las Vegas and RHP Henry Baez to Double-A Midland and reassigned LHP Wei-En Lin, LHP Domingo Robles, RHP A.J Causey, RHP JJ Goss, RHP Kenya Huggins RHP Yunior Tur, C Shane McGuire; and INF Joey Meneses to their minor league camp.
Nuñez was awful in his limited action in 2025 with a 7.11 ERA and 1.90 WHIP over 10 appearances. The 26-year-old will likely be an up-and-down option for the A’s in 2026.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #36
Athletics acquired RHP Henry Báez, SS Leodalis De Vries, RHP Eduarniel Nuñez, and RHP Braden Nett from the Padres in exchange for RHP Mason Miller and LHP JP Sears.
Báez was the 13th-ranked prospect in the Padres’ system, according to MLB Pipeline, and has posted a 1.96 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, and 89/31 K/BB ratio in 96 2/3 innings at Double-A this season. The Padres Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2024 features a 97 mph sinker with 14 inches of arm-side run, a slurvy 77 mph breaking ball, and a 84 mph split-change. His results at Double-A so far this season suggest that the Athletics could start him at Triple-A and see how he handles the level.
  • SD Starting Pitcher
Padres optioned RHP Henry Baez to Triple-A El Paso.
Baez was added to San Diego’s 40-man roster back in November after posting a 2.99 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 109/40 K/BB ratio across 126 1/3 innings (26 starts) between High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio.
  • SD Starting Pitcher
Padres selected the contract of RHP Henry Baez, RHP Ryan Bergert and LHP Omar Cruz from Triple-A El Paso.
The trio are now shielded from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft. Baez is the most notable member of this group as he checks in as MLB Pipeline’s seventh-ranked prospect in San Diego’s system. The 22-year-old righty finished last year with a respectable 2.99 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 109/40 K/BB ratio across 126 1/3 innings (26 starts) between High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio.
