The 26-year-old backstop victimized Pirates’ prized right-hander Bubba Chandler for a 391-foot (112.6 mph EV) solo shot to open the scoring in the third inning. That would be his only hit in the ballgame. He has struggled in his limited action this spring, hitting just .200 (2-for-10) with five strikeouts, though both of his hits have left the yard.

Camargo latches on with Atlanta just a few days after being released by the Twins. The 26-year-old backstop doesn’t have much of a path to at-bats in the big leagues with rookie Drake Baldwin and veteran Sean Murphy splitting the catching duties in the majors. He’ll serve as valuable organizational depth at the Triple-A level.

Camargo was designated for assignment Tuesday, and the Twins won’t keep him in the organization. He hit just .212/.258/.319 in 31 games with Triple-A St. Paul before his removal from the 40-man roster.

Camargo, who got into five games for the Twins last season, had spent all year at Triple-A St. Paul and hit .212/.258/.319 in 31 games. This is his first time on waivers, so he’ll have to stay with the club if he clears.

Camargo got into five contests last year for the Twins in a couple of call-ups but is still searching for his first big-league hit. The 25-year-old backstop will open the year back in the minors as extra organizational depth.

For the second time this month, Camargo is getting sent down without appearing in a game during a brief stint with the Twins. He has four callups and seven plate appearances (0-for-6 with a walk) over the course of the year.

Camargo is coming up as catching depth with Christian Vazquez away from the team Thursday while he deals with a personal matter. Simeon Woods Richardson was optioned to make room on the active roster.

Camargo didn’t play in his two-day stint while Christian Vázquez was on the paternity list.

With Christian Vázquez going on the Paternity List, the Twins needed another catcher, so Camargo will get three games up with the big club. He’ll probably start once over that span but remains off the fantasy radar.

Congratulations to Vázquez and his growing family. He will be out for the next three games, which will likely mean two starts for Ryan Jeffers. Jair Camargo was called up in a corresponding move.
