Giants transferred OF Jared Oliva to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move opens up a spot on San Francisco’s 40-man roster. The 30-year-old outfielder is facing a lengthy absence after undergoing hamate surgery on his left wrist earlier this month.

Giants’ outfielder Jared Oliva underwent successful surgery to repair a left wrist hamate fracture on Thursday.
The operation was performed by Dr. Steven Shin in Los Angeles, widely regarded as one of the best in the business. Oliva is expected to be shelved for four-to-six weeks while recovering.

Giants placed Jared Oliva on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist hamate fracture.
We’ve seen quite a few hamate bone fractures this year, so we have a good sense of the recovery timeline. It should be about 6-8 weeks before Oliva could be in the mix to be back up with San Francisco.

Harrison Bader and Jung Hoo Lee are out of the lineup for Tuesday’s game against the Phillies.
Bader and Lee are the notable regulars taking a seat with Jared Oliva getting a chance in center field and Jerar Encarnacion heading out to right field in this one.

Giants selected the contracts of OF Jared Oliva and RHP Caleb Kilian.
Oliva, whose only major league experience came with the Pirates in 2020 and ’21, really impressed the Giants by hitting .375 and going 14-for-15 stealing bases this spring. The 30-year-old hit .252/.335/.413 for the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate last year. Not much should be expected here, but given how much he loves stealing bases, there might be the chance of some fantasy value if an outfielder ahead of him gets hurt. Kilian, one of this spring’s biggest surprises thanks to a huge velocity jump, should contend for a setup role in the early going.

The Giants are expected to designate Luis Matos for assignment, reports The San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser.
Slusser adds that Matos will not make San Francisco’s season-opening roster and needs to pass through waivers since he is out of minor-league options. It’ll be Jared Oliva securing a spot on the Giants’ season-opening roster in his place. It’s possible he’ll go unclaimed on waivers and remain with the organization as extra depth.
  • SF Center Fielder #0
Giants optioned OF Drew Gilbert and Will Brennan and RHPs Spencer Bivens, Tristan Beck, Trevor McDonald and Carson Seymour to Triple-A Sacramento.
Gilbert’s departure makes it a near-lock that Jerar Encarnacion along with either Luis Matos or Jared Oliva will break camp in the big leagues.

Jared Oliva hit a three-run homer in a win over the Giants on Saturday.
Oliva also singled twice. The roundtripper came off a wholly ineffective Tanner Bibee for his first spring homer of the campaign. The 30-year-old is battling for a bench spot on the roster, but is likely ticketed for Triple-A to begin 2026 — assuming he doesn’t opt out of his deal.

Giants signed OF Jared Oliva to a minor league contract.
The 30-year-old Oliva, whose major league experience consists of going 10-for-56 with the Pirates between 2020 and ’21, is still out there hoping for another chance. He hit .252/.335/.413 with 57 steals in 63 tries while playing for Milwaukee’s Triple-A affiliate last season.
  • MIL Catcher #76
Brewers optioned C Jeferson Quero, RHP Grant Anderson, RHP Logan Henderson RHP Carlos Rodriguez and LHP Grant Wolfram to Triple-A Nashville and reassigned OF Jared Oliva and C Ramon Rodriguez to minor league camp.
All of the pitchers optioned by the Brew Crew have a chance to make appearances for Milwaukee before the end of the year, but only Rodriguez is likely to make starts. The biggest name here is Quero; a catcher who missed most of the 2024 campaign with a shoulder issue, but offers considerable fantasy upside and could be be in the majors before the season ends.
