It will be the first time Christiansen has pitched in a game since undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow last May.

The Giants are looking for a second lefty to go behind Scott Eyre. It’s possible that they could carry three lefties if an NRI has an impressive spring.

Christiansen experienced soreness after his latest rehab stint. Trainer Stan Conte said the team will re-evaluate Christiansen’s next move over the weekend.

Christiansen has spoken recently of coming back sooner than June, but that’s not very realistic as he comes back from Tommy John surgery. And while trainer Stan Conte doesn’t consider this recent soreness a setback, it’s not anything that’s gonna get him back sooner.

Christiansen had fluid drained from the knee. He could be ready to pitch batting practice on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The problem isn’t believed to be serious. Christiansen doesn’t know how he hurt his leg. Maybe he was washing his truck.

Giants trainer Stan Conte said the soonest Christiansen would be activated is Saturday.

Christiansen had hoped to come off the disabled list this weekend, but there isn’t currently any official timetable for his return. He’ll probably be back in mid-May if he’s pain free after he resumes throwing.

Christiansen is expected to return from Tommy John surgery in early June.

Christiansen is expected to miss the first two months of the season.
