Pridie

Pridie was suspended 50 games last week for testing positive for a “drug of abuse.” The 28-year-old outfielder will serve that punishment in the Athletics’ minor league system, likely at Triple-A Sacramento.

Well, that will effectively end his chances at earning an Opening Day bench spot. It’s not clear at this point what Pridie tested positive for. The 28-year-old batted .231/.309/.370 with four homers and 20 RBI over 236 plate appearances with the Mets last season.

Pridie is expected to elect free agency. The 28-year-old batted .231/.309/.370 over 101 games for the Mets this season. He’ll be able to catch on somewhere with a minor league deal.

We suspect the contract includes an invite to spring training. Pridie, 28, batted .231/.309/.370 with four homers and 20 RBI over 236 plate appearances with the Mets this season. He’ll try to win a spot on the A’s Opening Day roster as a reserve outfielder.

Pridie signed a minor league contract with the Phillies earlier this month after getting released by the A’s. He will function as outfield and bench depth.

Starting in place of a pouting Shane Victorino, Pridie took Jair Jurrjens deep for a two-run homer in the second before doubling home another run in the fourth. With today being his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley on June 30, Pridie isn’t yet worth a look in deeper NL-only leagues.

Pridie cleared waivers after being designated for assignment over the weekend. He’ll continue to serve as outfield depth in the minors.
