2022 first-round pick Jett Williams was traded from the Mets to the Brewers in the four-player Freddy Peralta deal.
Williams is just 5-foot-7, but he packs some punch anyway, coming in at .262/.363/.465 with 17 homers and 34 steals between Double- and Triple-A last year. He’s still mostly a shortstop at this point, but he’s logged time in center and at second base, and center might wind up being his best position. He just turned 22 in November, and he probably needs another full year in the minors, but he projects as a regular somewhere, and his speed makes him particularly intriguing as a fantasy prospect.

The Mets are acquiring Freddy Peralta from the Brewers for Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
The Mets will also get Tobias Myers, The Athletic’s Will Sammon confirms. Coming off his fifth place finish in the NL Cy Young balloting, Peralta will join Nolan McLean, David Peterson, Clay Holmes and likely either Kodai Senga or Sean Manaea in the Mets rotation. Sproat could be a candidate to go right into Milwaukee’s rotation, though it seems more likely that he’ll open up in Triple-A. Williams is probably a year away, but he could be a starting shortstop or center fielder for the Brewers in 2027. The Mets will have Peralta for $8 million this year before he becomes eligible for free agency next winter.

The New York Post’s Joel Sherman says the Mets-Brewers talks regarding Freddy Peralta are serious and that the Mets are also due to receive fellow right-hander Tobias Myers if a trade is completed.
Sherman says the Brewers have asked for both Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams, and it sounds like the Mets may have relented following the addition of Myers to the proposed deal.

Michael Marino reports that, so far, the Mets have been unwilling to trade either Jonah Tong or Brandon Sproat in a deal for Freddy Peralta.
Marino reported that “Jonah Tong’s name briefly came up in talks with the Brewers about Freddy Peralta before the Mets quickly ended that discussion.” The Mets then rejected a follow-up offer that was Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams for Peralta. Given that Peralta is a free agent at the end of the upcoming season, it makes sense that the Mets may not want to deal one of their top prospect who could have multiple years of value; however, it feels likely that some team will be willing to do that to acquire Peralta.

The recently promoted Jett Williams finished 3-for-3 with a double and a walk for Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.
All three hits ranged from 101-108 mph off the bat. Williams started in center field last night after playing shortstop in his first two games for Syracuse. He was also playing some second base in Double-A. Obviously, he’s going to have a much easier time breaking in with the Mets at one of his alternative positions than he will at short. He’s probably not going to be a factor this year unless maybe Cedric Mullins gets hurt.

Mets promoted OF Carson Benge, INF/OF Jett Williams, and 1B/OF Ryan Clifford to Triple-A Syracuse.
All three rank inside the Mets’ top 10 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline, with Jett Williams being the top-ranked prospect, Benge ranked 4th, and Clifford ranked seventh. The Mets’ top-ranked pitching prospect, Jonah Tong, was also promoted to Triple-A on Sunday. Benge was the Mets’ first-round pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, and is one of the fastest risers on top prospect lists after hitting .311/.417/.519 with 12 home runs and 19 steals across 91 games between High-A and Double-A. Williams hit .284 in 95 games at Triple-A with 10 home runs and 32 steals, while Clifford had 24 home runs, four steals, and an .857 OPS in 104 games in Double-A this season. The future of the Mets’ lineup is pretty bright.

Mets reassigned RHPs Brandon Sproat, Blade Tidwell, Adbert Alzolay, Oliver Ortega, Ty Adcock and Dom Hamel, C Kevin Parada, INFs Ryan Clifford, Jett Williams and Luke Ritter and OFs Drew Gilbert and Rafael Ortega to minor league camp.
New York shipped the majority of their top prospects over the minor-league camp during their latest batch of spring cuts. Sproat is the major headliner here after impressing last Friday in a pair of scoreless frames against the Nationals. Tidwell fired an immaculate inning and struck out five over two frames over the weekend against the Rays. Meanwhile, Clifford, Gilbert and Williams have a shot at ascending to the big leagues at some point in the near future.

Mets’ prospect Jett Williams suffered a right ankle sprain during his final ballgame in the Arizona Fall League on Thursday.
The dynamic 21-year-old sustained the injury when he crashed into the outfield fence while chasing a fly ball. No word yet on the severity of the sprain, but Mets’ officials are optimistic that it won’t hinder his regular off-season routine. Williams finishes the fall season hitting .225/.376/.388 with a pair of homers, nine RBI, seven stolen bases and a 30/17 K/BB ratio over 80 at-bats in his 22 games.

Jett Williams homered and stole two bases in the Arizona Fall League for Scottsdale on Thursday.
Williams has his second AFL homer, and he’s now stolen three bases in the league. The 20-year-old hit just .215 last year at three different levels, but it’s worth noting he was limited to just 33 games because of a wrist injury. The 2022 first-round pick has a swing that suggests he can hit for average at the highest level with developing power, and he also has the wheels to steal plenty of bags. Williams has a chance to be a very solid fantasy player in the coming years.

Mets SS prospect Jett Williams (wrist) started a minor league rehab assignment earlier this week with Single-A St. Lucie
It’s an extremely encouraging sign that Williams is ready to return to game action after undergoing right wrist surgery back in early June, which was believed to be season-ending at the time. The 20-year-old shortstop, who was a first-round selection in the 2023 MLB Draft, should have a normal offseason and be ready to roll for spring training.
