Diamondbacks re-signed RHP John Curtiss to a minor league contract.
Curtiss, 32, had a 3.93 ERA in 30 appearances for the Diamondbacks last season, though he struck out only 24 in 36 2/3 innings. Arizona removed him from the 40-man after the season, but he’ll be back to compete for a bullpen spot in spring training.

Diamondbacks sent LHP Kyle Nelson, RHP John Curtiss, RHP Casey Kelly and INF Connor Kaiser outright to Triple-A Reno.
The move clears space on the 40-man roster. Nelson could elect free agency, but he’s likely looking at a minor-league contract regardless and will need to be added back to a 40-man in order to pitch in the majors in 2026. The same can be applied to all parties named in the section above.

John Curtiss earned his first save since 2020 by protecting a one-run lead in the ninth Saturday against the Phillies.
Curtiss was the choice to close tonight despite giving up four earned runs without retiring a batter in his previous appearance. It’s his third career save since debuting in 2017. He has a 3.86 ERA and a 21/5 K/BB in 35 innings this season.

John Curtiss turned in scoreless ninth and 10th innings for a win Saturday against the Twins.
The Diamondbacks had Curtiss working in a tie game in the ninth and then stuck with him after scoring three runs in the top of the 10th. It was a rather rare high-leverage situation for the 32-year-old journeyman; he’s totaled two saves and nine holds in 119 major league appearances since debuting with the Twins in 2017.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Shelby Miller on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to July 6, with a right forearm strain.
Not good. Miller has taken over as Arizona’s primary closer since early May following injuries to A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez. The scary part here is that forearm issues are often a precursor to more alarming elbow concerns. It’s unclear where Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will turn with Miller on the shelf, but Kevin Ginkel and Jalen Beeks have some closing experience. The wild cards here would be John Curtiss and Kyle Backhus.

Diamondbacks recalled RHP John Curtiss from Triple-A Reno.
The 32-year-old hurler has spent the entire season to date at Triple-A Reno where he has compiled a 6.34 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and a 28/9 K/BB ratio over 32 2/3 frames. He’ll add a fresh arm to a depleted Diamondbacks’ bullpen for at least a day or two.
  • AZ 2nd Baseman #2
Diamondbacks selected the contract of INF/OF Garrett Hampson from Triple-A Reno; reassigned INF Ildemaro Vargas, RHP John Curtis and C Aramis Garcia to minor league camp.
Hampson batted .300 (12-for-40) with eight RBI and three steals in 17 games this spring to secure a spot on Arizona’s season-opening roster over veteran Ildemaro Vargas in a versatile bench role.

Diamondbacks signed RHP John Curtiss to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Curtiss latches on with Arizona as extra organizational relief depth entering spring training after making three appearances last year for the NL West division-rival Rockies. The 31-year-old journeyman righty has made 94 appearances (five starts) in the majors dating back to 2017. He’ll most likely wind up at Triple-A Reno as emergency depth.
  • COL Relief Pitcher #37
Rockies sent RHP John Curtiss outright to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Curtiss predictably went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. The 31-year-old righty has the option to elect free agency, but will likely wind up sticking around with Colorado as emergency relief depth for the final few weeks.

Rockies designated RHP John Curtiss for assignment.
Curtiss is removed from the active roster and the 40-man in order to make room for Chase Shreve Curtiss will now hit the waiver wire, and there will likely be a smidgen of interest in the 31-year old as depth for the final two months of the year.
