Adams

Adams is a former first-round pick who has bounced around over the past few years, and he’ll need an outstanding spring training if he has any chance to make the Brewers’ Opening Day roster.

McKenzie headlines a group of 19 players who elected minor league free agency earlier this week, including catcher Matt Thaiss; infielders Scott Kingery, Keston Hiura, Sergio Alcántara, Terrin Vavra and Vimael Machín; outfielders Jose Siri, Connor Joe and Jordyn Adams; and relievers Noah Davis, Scott Blewett, Brooks Kriske, Kevin Herget, Cionel Pérez, Darren McCaughan, Richard Lovelady, José Ruiz and Jordan Weems.

Adams went unclaimed on waivers and is now officially off Baltimore’s 40-man roster. The 25-year-old outfielder got into 10 contests earlier this season for the Orioles.

Adams goes to make room for Daniel Johnson, who was claimed off waivers from the Giants yesterday. He struck out in both of his at-bats during his three days in the majors.

It looks like Johnson, who does have an option remaining, will get a spot on the Orioles’ roster, probably in place of Jordyn Adams. Johnson, a 30-year-old former Guardians prospect, spent last year with the Orioles organization, hitting .259/.320/.448 with 21 homers and 17 steals in Triple-A and going 0-for-1 in one major league game. He’d hit .278/.322/.519 for the Giants’ Triple-A club this year. His time in the majors could be short-lived with Dylan Beavers perhaps in line for a callup this weekend and Colton Cowser not expected to be down for long.

With Tyler O’Neill (wrist) and Colton Cowser (concussion) hitting the injured list on Friday, the O’s had a sudden need for outfield depth which will give Adams another opportunity with the big league club. The 25-year-old has gone hitless in three at-bats with the O’s this season.

Adams went 0-for-2 in his second stint with the Orioles. He was 0-for-1 in the first back in June. The move makes room for Vidal Bruján on the active roster.

Adams played in just one game in Double-A on Tuesday. Before that, the long-time Angels prospect hit .185/.283/.282 in 230 plate appearances for Triple-A Norfolk. The Orioles had productive players they could have promoted instead, but what would be the point of that?

It’s the first time he’s been outrighted, so he’ll have to accept the assignment. Adams was DFA’d on Friday after going 0-for-1 in five games with the Orioles.

Adams is removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Scott Blewett after Blewett was traded to Baltimore from Atlanta. The 25-year-old is a former first-round pick and could see interest on the waiver wire or via trade, but he profiles as organizational depth at this point.
