Giants acquired RHP José Buttó, RHP Blade Tidwell and OF Drew Gilbert from the Mets for RHP Tyler Rogers.
Buttó provides San Francisco with a steady middle relief option for the next few years with Rogers set to reach free agency in two months. The 27-year-old righty, who won’t reach free agency until 2031, has compiled a respectable 3.64 ERA and 41/22 K/BB ratio across 47 innings (34 appearances) this season for the Mets.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Mets are acquiring reliever Tyler Rogers from the Giants.
The New York Post’s Joel Sherman adds that the Mets are sending José Buttó, Blade Tidwell and Drew Gilbert to San Francisco in the deal, which represents a considerable haul. Tidwell is the interesting name given his stuff and Gilbert isn’t far-removed from being one of the premier prospects in the game. Buttó has been exceptional in relief for New York and might wind up being the real prize in the deal. The move comes just a few hours after Rogers’ identical twin brother, Taylor, was shipped to the Pirates. The 34-year-old submariner has been an absolute workhorse for San Francisco the last few years with a whopping 392 appearances dating back to 2019. He’s posted a sparkling 1.80 ERA and 38/4 K/BB ratio across 50 innings (53 appearances) this season. He’ll be a free agent at the end of the year.

Mets activated LHP José Buttó from the 15-day injured list.
Buttó was placed on the injured list back on July 4, but has looked good in his rehab outings, including a scoreless inning for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday. He will slot right back into the middle innings for the Mets.

José Buttó (illness) threw a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
Buttó struck out one, didn’t allow a baserunner, and threw 10 of his 15 pitches for strikes. He’s probably ready to return to the Mets bullpen, and they could certainly use some fresh arms.

José Buttó (illness) fired a scoreless inning on Tuesday during a minor league rehab appearance in the Rookie-level Florida Complex League.
Buttó landed on the injured list earlier this month with an undisclosed illness. The 27-year-old righty, who has posted a strong 2.47 ERA across 43 2/3 innings (31 appearances) this season, figures to be ready to rejoin New York’s relief corps shortly after the All-Star break.

Mets placed RHP Jose Butto on the 15-day injured list.
The injury isn’t being disclosed, but the hope is that Butto is back shortly after the All-Star break. Chris Devenski will take his roster spot.

Edwin Díaz gave up a run and blew a save Monday, but he was able to pick up a win against the Dodgers.
Díaz gave up a sacrifice fly to Shohei Ohtani that caused him to blow his first save of 2025. Fantasy managers take a hit in the ERA as well, but they at least get a win since the Mets scored two in the next frame, with Jose Butto getting a two-out save in the 10th. Diaz did strike out two as well, and his ERA remains a very solid 2.49.

Mets reassigned RHP Chris Devenski, INF Donovan Walton, C Jakson Reetz and LHP Génesis Cabrera and RHP José Ureña to minor league camp.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza made it official that Reed Garrett, José Butto and Danny Young will open the year in New York’s bullpen. The decision to jettison Walton leaves Brett Baty and Luisangel Acuña as the Mets’ primary bench options, but they haven’t officially made the team yet, added Mendoza. It also means that A.J. Minter and Dedniel Nuñez are probably headed to the injured list.

Jose Butto is currently recovering from a groin injury.
The injury is described as “minor,” but it’s enough to keep Butto out of action. The 26-year-old will be a multi-inning option for the Mets when healthy, but his status for Opening Day is now in question.

José Buttó pitched a perfect inning in relief against the Cardinals on Monday.
The Mets have a couple of starters down already, but they still seem committed to Buttó as a reliever for now. It’s kind of a shame; he has a 3.13 ERA in 14 starts over the last two seasons.
