Mets optioned LHP Josh Edgin to Double-A Binghamton.
Edgin made a valiant effort to make New York’s Opening Day roster, hurling 10 1/3 innings of scoreless relief this spring. Even with Tim Byrdak (knee) likely to begin the season on the DL, the Mets opted to give Edgin more seasoning in the minors before they relied on him in Queens. Edgin will be Binghamton’s closer to begin the year. Expect to see him up with the Mets sometime over the summer.

Mets purchased the contract of LHP Josh Edgin from Triple-A Buffalo.
Edgin will serve as a second left-hander out of the bullpen. He’s posted a 3.89 ERA and 40/18K/BB ratio over 37 innings this season at the Triple-A level.

Mets manager Terry Collins told Adam Rubin of ESPN New York that the team will likely promote a reliever in advance of Friday’s game.
Mets general manager Sandy Alderson has previously indicated that Josh Edgin was in line for a call-up, so we suspect he’ll be added to the roster. The 25-year-old southpaw has a 3.89 ERA and 40/18 K/BB ratio over 37 innings this season with Triple-A Buffalo. The Mets have longed for a second left-hander out of the bullpen for a while now, so he could stick with the club for the rest of the summer.

The Mets will promote left-hander Josh Edgin from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.
He’ll take the place of Dillon Gee (shoulder) on the active roster. Edgin, 25, has a 3.89 ERA and 40/18K/BB ratio over 37 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He’ll function as a second left-hander out of the bullpen.

The Mets plan to shut down left-handed reliever Josh Edgin after one more appearance in 2012.
Edgin is being shut down purely due to workload. He has thrown 69 innings between the minors and majors this season. Over 25 2/3 innings with the big club, Edgin has a 3.86 ERA to go along with 30 punch-outs.

Mets recalled LHP Josh Edgin from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Edgin was a big disappointment prior to his demotion in late April and wasn’t much better in the minors, posting a 6.75 ERA in 16 appearances between Double- and Triple-A. Still, the Mets have called him up to replace Robert Carson in the bullpen.

Josh Edgin surrendered three runs -- two earned -- in 1 2/3 innings out of the pen versus the Tigers on Thursday.
Edgin has allowed seven runs -- four earned -- and 13 hits in 7 2/3 innings this spring. We’d rate him as the Mets’ best lefty reliever, but since he’s having a tough time this spring and the Mets have several veterans in camp, it’s possible Edgin will be sent down for the first few weeks.

The Mets are expected to promote Robert Carson from Triple-A Las Vegas.
The left-handed reliever was beaten out by fellow lefty Scott Rice for a bullpen spot this spring, but he’s performed well at Triple-A in the early going. The Mets have plenty of options for which pitcher he will replace, but Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com speculates that it will likely be southpaw Josh Edgin.

Mets optioned LHP Josh Edgin to Double-A Binghamton.
Edgin has struggled this season and posted a 9.64 ERA in 11 appearances. The Mets will demote him to their Double-A affiliate so he can figure out his issues against lower competition. Shaun Marcum has been activated from the 15-day disabled list in a corresponding move.

Mets transferred LHP Josh Edgin from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Jordany Valdespin to be reinstated following his suspension. Edgin suffered a stress fracture in his rib in August, but should be fine for 2014.
