Nationals’ minor league right-hander Josh Wilkie was suspended 50 games for testing positive for a drug of abuse.
Wilkie told MASN.com’s Byron Kerr that he was suspended for a spice in a type of flavored tobacco. The spice is legal, but apparently not permissible according to the banned substance guidelines. Wilkie, 27, is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 18 games this season with Triple-A Syracuse. He’ll begin serving the suspension immediately.
