Mariners purchased the contract of OF Julio Morban from High-A High Desert.
Morban, 20, obviously isn’t close to being ready for the big leagues, but the Mariners weren’t prepared to expose him to the Rule 5 Draft. He batted .313/.361/.550 with 17 homers at High Desert this past season.

Mariners optioned INF Carlos Triunfel, LHP Bobby LaFromboise, RHP Yoervis Medina and INF Vinnie Catricala to Triple-A Tacoma, optioned OF Julio Morban and INF Francisco Martinez to Double-A West Tennessee and re-assigned RHP Andrew Carraway to minor league camp.
None of them were expected to make the major league roster, so there are no real surprises here. It turns out to be a bittersweet day for Morban, who blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Mariners to victory earlier in the afternoon.

Mariners sent OF Julio Morban outright to Double-A Jackson.
The move was made to clear a spot on the 40-man roster. Morban is hitting just .179/.304/.299 in 21 minor league games this season, and is currently away from the team tending to a personal issue. He’ll continue to function as organizational depth in the outfield.

Mariners optioned OF Julio Morban to Double-A Jackson.
It’s no surprise that he’s an early cut. Morban, 22, returns to Double-A where he batted .295/.362/.468 with seven homers and 44 RBI over 86 games last season.

Morban is dealing with a personal issue, although more details aren’t available. It’s not clear how long he might be away. Morban is hitting just .194/.315/.323 between Double- and Triple-A this season.
