White Sox prospect first baseman Keon Barnum will miss six weeks following surgery to remove his right hamate bone.
Barnum, a 2012 supplemental first-round pick, batted .279/.347/.512 with three home runs and an .859 OPS in 49 plate appearances last year in rookie ball. The 20-year-old was ranked as the organization’s No. 8 prospect by Baseball America this winter.

Keon Barnum went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday’s Cactus League win over the Dodgers.
Barnum had his moment in the sun with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. It was otherwise all darkness for the first baseman, who struck out in each of his other three at-bats. Splitting time between High-A and Double-A ball last season, the 25-year-old struggled to the tune of a .218/.303/.398 triple-slash in 115 games played. He’ll be starting the upcoming campaign down in the minors.
