Kevin Millwood will get his wish to start Sunday.
Millwood threw a 45-pitch, 3-inning simulated game yesterday. He’ll be held to around 60 pitches Sunday vs. the Expos. Despite the opponent, it probably isn’t worth using him since he’s not likely to be around long enough to qualify for a win.

Kevin Millwood said he’s not thinking about the future, but he stressed yesterday that if he can return from elbow tendinitis this season, he wants to start, not relieve.
Be careful what you wish for. The biggest reason Millwood would like to return is that he’s tired of one-year contracts like he’s had with Philadelphia the last two seasons, and is seeking a long-term deal. Proving he’s healthy would serve him in that quest. However, if he’s not 100 percent and not stretched out from not being able to go on a rehab assignment, he could get shelled. In any case, manager Larry Bowa intends to use Millwood out of the bullpen once he’s ready.

Millwood would still like to make a start or two before the end of the season.

Kevin Millwood (elbow tendinitis) used yesterday’s rainout to get some throwing in.
He was fairly satisfied with his two-inning stint in a simulated game yesterday but has yet to throw all of his off-speed pitches. The chances of him coming off the disabled list in time to make a two to three inning spot start on Sunday against the Mets, are slim to none.

Kevin Millwood threw for 5 minutes in front of manager Larry Bowa and pitching coach Joe Kerrigan and declared himself fit for duty.
Millwood, who left his last start with a groin pull, is still Thursday’s scheduled starter, but the Phillies want to be sure he’s 100 percent and not just eager to face his old team the Braves.

The Phillies have no interest in re-signing Kevin Millwood.
GM Ed Wade did talk to agent Scott Boras about Derek Lowe and Ron Villone. “We didn’t talk about Kevin,” said Wade. The Phillies won’t be offering Millwood another multiyear pact or even a deal for 2005. Millwood is likely to get only a one-year contract after missing time with elbow problems last season.

The Indians and Kevin Millwood are expected to have a deal finalized soon.
“I feel optimistic about it,” GM Mark Shapiro said. Millwood would get a one-year, $7 million contract with a chance to earn an extra $1 million if he makes 34 starts or pitches 210 innings.

Under the terms of the deal with the Indians that is expected to be officially announced tomorrow, Kevin Millwood will be guaranteed just $3 million in 2005.
Millwood will receive a $4 million signing bonus, but that money is contingent on him not spending more than 20 days on the disabled list for a shoulder or elbow injury sustained while pitching -- not fielding or batting. He can also earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses, getting the full amount if he makes 34 starts or pitches 215 innings.
