Diamondbacks selected Mississippi State RHP Landon Sims with the 34th pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Sims was one of the best relievers in baseball in 2021, and was looking like a potential first-round pick as a starter. Unfortunately, Tommy John surgery wiped out most of his season. He has two plus-plus pitches in his fastball and slider, and he’ll show a decent change at times. The most likely route for Sims is the bullpen, and he very well could be the D-Backs closer in a couple years.
