Leo De Vries exited Saturday’s game against the Giants due to stomach issues.
De Vries was treated for possible dehydration; something that happens to plenty of players in the hot sun of Arizona. The 19-year-old is expected to be ok, and should return to the lineup in the coming days. De Vries is an elite fantasy prospect who just might make his debut in 2026, although 2027 seems much more realistic.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
The Athletics announced 31 non-roster invites spring training, including prized shortstop prospect Leo De Vries plus starting pitchers Gage Jump and Jamie Arnold.
De Vries was the centerpiece the Padres sent back to the A’s for Mason Miller last season and is considered one of the best prospects in baseball. It’s customary for top prospects to get an invite to major league spring training, especially when they’ve already reached Double-A like De Vries did last season. It’s unlikely the 19-year-old is ready to compete for a major league roster spot yet though. Of this trio, Jump has the best chance to reach the majors in 2026 after breaking out with a 3.28 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 131/34 K/BB ratio across 112 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A last season.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman #20
According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the A’s made Ha-Seong Kim a four-year offer to play second base that he turned down to re-sign with the Braves.
Kim would have been guaranteed just $48 million, though bonuses probably would have pushed his salaries higher. It’s interesting that the A’s were willing to make such a commitment to a middle infielder, given that Jacob Wilson is locked in and top prospect Leo De Vries, the primary return in the Mason Miller trade, might be ready in 2027. Still, the A’s probably ought to commit at least a one-year deal to a starter at second or third. Right now, they have Zack Gelof, Max Muncy, Max Schuemann, Darell Hernaiz, Brett Harris and Michael Stefanic as possibilities at those two spots.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
Athletics SS prospect Leo De Vries went 3-for-5 with two home runs and four RBI on Friday for Double-A Midland.
De Vries became the first 18-year-old to record multiple home runs at the Double-A level since generational talent Bryce Harper accomplished the feat back in 2011, according to MLB Pipeline. The switch-hitting shortstop prodigy notched his third multi-homer performance of the season, accomplishing the feat for the first time at the Double-A level. He’s gone deep three times in his last six games and is slashing .275/.348/.513 with 10 extra-base hits in 19 games for Midland.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
Athletics SS prospect Le De Vries went 4-for-5 with a solo homer on Saturday for Double-A Midland.
De Vries, the centerpiece of the Mason Miller trade with San Diego, will enter the offseason as a top-five dynasty prospect thanks to his tantalizing power/speed upside. The 18-year-old — the youngest player in Double-A — notched his first four-hit game there, capped by his first Texas League homer, after last recording a five-hit effort back in April at High-A. He’s hit some turbulence since the promotion but still owns 11 homers and 11 steals through 111 games across two levels.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
Independent journalist Francys Romero reports that the Athletics have promoted top prospect Leo De Vries to Double-A Midland.
De Vries is currently ranked as the third best prospect in all of baseball by MLB Pipeline, behind only Konnor Griffin and Kevin McGonigle. The 18-year-old infielder has hit .246/.353/.425 with 10 homers, 58 RBI, nine stolen bases (in 16 attempts) and a 56/87 K/BB ratio over 429 plate appearances at the High-A level this season. The A’s have been aggressive recently in promoting their top prospects, but it’s still unlikely that we see De Vries in the big leagues until the 2027 season.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
Athletics SS prospect Leo De Vries went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBI on Friday for High-A Lansing.
De Vries struggled out of the gate after coming over from the Padres as the centerpiece of the Mason Miller blockbuster at last month’s trade deadline. However, the 18-year-old switch-hitting prodigy is finally starting to find his footing with his new organization, recording his second multi-homer performance of the season on Friday night. He possesses an electrifying power/speed combination, which makes him one of the elite long-term prospects in the fantasy landscape. He’s a potential force multiplier down the road for an Athletics’ lineup that looks like it has a pair of potential franchise cornerstones already in Jacob Wilson and Nick Kurtz. He’ll finish the season as a top-five dynasty prospect.
  • ATH Shortstop #94
Athletics acquired SS Leodalis De Vries, RHP Braden Nett, RHP Henry Báez, and RHP Eduarniel Nuñez from the Padres in exchange for RHP Mason Miller and LHP JP Sears.
De Vries is the 3rd-ranked prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, so this is quite a get for the Athletics. The 18-year-old was hitting just .245/.3567/.410 in 82 games at High-A this season with eight home runs and eight steals, but he is an extremely projectable talent. A switch-hitter with a good feel for the strike zone and plus bat speed, De Vries was already a top-five range dynasty prospect. He has shown better power from the right side than the left side so far in his career, but he represents the ultimate X-factor addition to a young Athletics’ nucleus that already includes Jacob Wilson, Lawrence Butler, and Nick Kurtz in addition to veteran slugger Brent Rooker.
  • ATH Relief Pitcher #19
ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Padres have acquired RHP Mason Miller and LHP JP Sears from the Athletics in exchange for SS prospect Leodalis De Vries and three pitching prospects.
Well, this is quite a blockbuster. The Padres certainly did not need bullpen help, but when has that ever stopped their president of baseball operations and general manager AJ Preller? There is likely another domino here, as Robert Suarez, who is a free agent at the end of the season, will almost surely be traded away in another move today. That would allow Miller to be the closer on the Padres for this year and the four more years he’s under team control. The Padres had to part with De Vries, who is the third-ranked prospect in all of baseball. The 18-year-old is only at High-A right now, so it might be another two years before he makes his MLB debut.
  • SD Shortstop #94
Padres SS prospect Leo De Vries went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and three RBI on Tuesday for High-A Fort Wayne.
De Vries continues his meteoric rise to elite prospect status with another monster performance in the lower minors. The 18-year-old phenom got on-base in all three of his plate appearances and launched his fourth round-tripper of the season. He’s hitting a robust .290/.359/.609 with 11 extra-base hits and two steals through 18 games for High-A Fort Wayne.
