St. John

St. John inked a minor league contract last month with the Twins after splitting last year between the Cubs and Mets at the Triple-A level. The 30-year-old lefty reliever has made eight relief appearances in the majors since 2019.

The 30-year-old left-hander spent the majority of the 2022 season at the Triple-A level for the Cubs and Mets, where he compiled a 5.88 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 43/29 K/BB ratio across 49 innings. He’ll add bullpen depth for the Twins.

St. John was claimed off waivers in mid-May from the Cubs, but didn’t end up making an appearance for the Mets before being removed from the club’s 40-man roster back in early July. The 29-year-old left-hander should be able to find a new opportunity this offseason as extra organizational relief depth.

St. John was a waiver claim back in mid-May but he went unclaimed this time around. The southpaw will remain at Syracuse as relief depth.

This move clears out a roster spot for Ender Inciarte, who is joining the Mets on Tuesday. St. John, 29, has surrendered seven earned runs on 10 hits and four walks in 8 2/3 career innings of work at the MLB level.

St. John was designated for assignment last week by the Cubs and will bolster the Mets’ organizational relief depth moving forward. The 29-year-old left-hander made one relief appearance for the Cubs at the major-league level this season.

St. John was optioned off the 26-man roster on Monday and has now been removed from the 40-man roster to open up a spot for Robert Gsellman. The 29-year-old lefty has a career 7.27 ERA in the bigs.

St. John has been jettisoned back to the minors with major league rosters slashed from 28 down to 26 on May 2. The 29-year-old lefty reliever surrendered three runs on three hits, including a pair of homers, with four strikeouts and zero walks in his lone relief appearance this season with the Cubs.

St. John will bolster the Cubs’ bullpen depth ahead of Saturday’s matchup against the division-rival Brewers. The 29-year-old southpaw registered a serviceable 5.14 ERA, 1.86 WHIP and 8/6 K/BB ratio across seven innings at Triple-A Iowa this season.

St. John gets placed on the 40-man roster shortly before a likely opt-out date. He could help the Cubs bullpen before the end of the year.
