Royals designated infielder Mario Lisson for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Rick Ankiel, who was signed to a one-year, $3.25 million contract this weekend. Lisson, 25, hit just .227/.283/.373 between Double-A and Triple-A last season.
