Mark Phillips was traded from the Padres to the Yankees in a three-player deal.
We don’t like Phillips as much as some do, but the No. 9 overall pick in the 2000 draft does become the Yankees’ No. 2 pitching prospect. The 21-year-old has excellent stuff for a lefty. It just remains to be seen whether he’ll improve his control before he hurts his elbow of his shoulder. Now that he’s with the Yankees, his ETA should be pushed back to 2005.
