The right-hander left his last start after four innings with what was originally described as tightness.

Childers, who had a 4.87 ERA while splitting time between the rotation and the pen for Triple-A Indianapolis last season, has yet to allow a run in 8 1/3 innings in Mexico.

Both Buddy Hernandez and Kevin Barry got off to poor starts for Richmond, so Childers, 26, is back in the majors for the first time since making eight appearances for the Brewers in 2002. He had a 3.26 ERA and a 24/6 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 IP as a reliever in Triple-A.

Childers, 28, appeared in the majors with the Brewers in 2002 and the Braves in 2005. He had a 3.41 ERA for Triple-A Ottawa this season.

Childers made eight relief appearances for Milwaukee last season. He had allowed five runs in three innings this spring.

Just one day after getting his contract, Childers was removed from the 40-man roster. He’ll be invited to spring traning as a non-roster player.

Both players were already on Milwaukee’s 40-man roster. Childers, who made eight relief appearance for the Brewers in 2002, split last season between Double-A Huntsville and Triple-A Indianapolis, going 4-0 with a 2.43 ERA in 47 relief appearances. He could see time in the Milwaukee pen in 2004. Liriano was 9-13 with a 3.79 ERA in 27 starts for Huntsville, but he’s falling behind some of the team’s other pitching prospects.

Childers, 27, spent part of May in the majors with the Braves last season and had a 3.93 ERA in 73 1/3 IP for Triple-A Richmond. He’ll head to Columbus.
