Matt Magill has announced his retirement from baseball.
Magill, who turned 32 years old in November, finishes with a 4.63 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 149 2/3 career major league innings, working mostly in relief. A former 31st-round draft pick, he debuted in 2013 and pitched for the Dodgers, Twins, Reds, and Mariners over parts of five big league seasons.

Mariners re-signed RHP Matt Magill to a minor-league contract.
Magill was released by the Mariners after failing to make their Opening Day roster, but will remain with the organization to open the 2021 season. The 31-year-old righty owns a pedestrian 4.63 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 158/82 K/BB ratio over 149 2/3 innings at the major-league level since 2013.

Magill needed an arthroscopic debridement procedure on his right shoulder in mid-September, but he is expected to be ready for spring training and will compete for a spot again in the Seattle bullpen. Magill earned five saves in 22 total appearances with the Mariners in 2019 before struggling to a 6.10 ERA over 10 1/3 innings of relief in 2020. The 30-year-old required an arthroscopic debridement surgery on his right shoulder in mid-September and was outrighted off the Mariners’ 40-man roster earlier this week.

Mariners transferred RHP Matt Magill to the 45-day injured list.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Seth Frankoff. Magill is now essentially done for the season with a strained shoulder.

Mariners placed RHP Matt Magill on the 10-day injured list with a right shoulder strain.
Magill battled shoulder issues throughout spring training and he appears to have suffered a re-injury in recent days. The right-hander owns a troublesome 6.10 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11/6 K/BB ratio over 10 1/3 innings on the season. Zac Grotz was recalled from the alternate site to take his place in the Mariners’ bullpen.

Mariners’ pitching coach Pete Woodworth said earlier this week that right-hander Matt Magill (shoulder) is now back to full health.
Magill -- who entered the spring as the favorite for saves at the back end of the Mariners’ bullpen -- was sidelined due to a sore right shoulder early on in Mariners’ camp. It sounds as though manager Scott Servais is going to employ a closer-by-committee of sorts, with Magill, Yoshihisa Hirano, Dan Altavilla and Carl Edwards Jr. all potentially in the mix.

Matt Magill (shoulder) made an appearance in a “B” game on Saturday.
It’s the first time this spring that Magill has faced hitters. As long as he doesn’t have any setbacks, the right-hander should have enough time to avoid an injured list stint. He’s in the mix for saves in the Mariners bullpen.

Matt Magill (shoulder) is still at least a week away from pitching in games.
Magill has been battling a sore right shoulder early on in camp. The Mariners think he will be ready for Opening Day, but he probably can’t afford any setbacks. If healthy, Magill will be in the mix to close for the Mariners, although manager Scott Servais doesn’t plan to have a set option for the ninth inning.
