Mickey Moniak went 1-for-3 and drove in a run on Sunday as the Angels were walloped by the Guardians in Cactus League action.
The former top prospect got the Angels on the board first in this one, delivering an RBI single off of Ben Lively in the opening inning. That lead would vanish quickly. Moniak was struck out by Kolby Allard in the third inning and bounced out to shortstop in the sixth, finishing the day 1-for-3. He should begin the season in the strong side of a platoon in center field for the Halos, but he’ll need to produce better than the .219/.266/.380 slash line that he did in 2024 to keep that job and find any sort of relevancy for fantasy purposes.

MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger reports that Luis Rengifo will “get reps in center field this spring.”
While this is ostensibly to add versatility to his game, there is a real chance that Rengifo could settle in as a regular center fielder. The Angels will start the season by giving opportunities to Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak, but both of them have failed to live up to prospect hype and are running short on chances. If Rengifo acquits himself well in center field and Moniak and Adell struggle, the Angels could move Rengifo to the outfield. That would free up second base for prized prospect Christian Moore, who was apparently on the verge of being called up late last season before suffering an injury.

Mike Trout announced Monday that he’ll be moving to right field on a full-time basis this season.
He’ll also DH on occasion. While there’s been plenty of talk about Trout moving to a corner, none of the Angels’ offseason moves appear to have been made with Trout’s move in mind.. As a result, Jo Adell and Mickey Moniak now simply move from the right field depth chart to center. It seems like bad news for Adell, since Moniak is the more accomplished center fielder, but we still imagine the Angels will give Adell the first shot out there. As for Trout, this should somewhat help his chances of staying healthy, though he is possibly in line for more wall interaction in right.

Mickey Moniak won his arbitration case against the Angels and will make $2 million in 2025.
The Angels were offering $1.5 million. Moniak slashed just .219/.260/.380 with 14 homers over 124 games. The former first-overall pick will be a fourth outfielder for Los Angeles to open the 2025 campaign.

The Angels filed at $1.5 million with outfielder Mickey Moniak.
Moniak was unable to build on his strong 2023, slashing .219/.266/.380 with 14 home runs in 124 games. He figures to operate as a bench outfielder for the Angels in 2025 but may be in his final chance to crack regular MLB value.

Moniak was able to appear off the bench, but still hasn’t been in the starting lineup since being diagnosed with a hand contusion Sunday. Jordyn Adams gets the start in center with Moniak not ready to go.

Mickey Moniak has been diagnosed with a hand contusion after leaving Sunday’s game against the Astros.
Moniak exited the game after being hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. The outfielder was replaced by Michael Stefanic (calf) in the contest, and he’s already undergone initial imaging. For now, Moniak should be considered day-to-day, but more info will likely come Monday.

Mickey Moniak went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Astros on Friday.
Moniak’s home run was his 14th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Yusei Kikuchi in the fourth inning. Moniak has six home runs and 12 RBI in his last 14 games as his power surge continues. He’s hitting .226 on the year, but has provided a decent amount of power and speed with 14 home runs and seven stolen bases.

Mickey Moniak went 1-for-3 with a three-run homer, two runs scored, and a walk against the Dodgers on Wednesday.
Moniak broke the game open early, taking Bobby Miller deep for a three-run blast in the first inning to make it a 5-0 ballgame. He later drew a walk in the eighth and scored on a base hit by Jo Adell. The 26-year-old outfielder is hitting .231/.274/.402 with 13 homers, 47 RBI, and six steals across 368 plate appearances.
