Brewers claim Sean Nolin off waivers from the Athletics
It only took 10 days for lefty Sean Nolin to find a new home. The Athletics designated him for assignment on February 12 to create roster space for Khris Davis and the Brewers claimed him off waivers on Monday, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. He’s now only the second left-handed pitcher on the club’s 40-man roster, which certainly helps his chances of cracking the Opening Day roster.
Nolin, 26, has seven starts and one relief appearance under his belt in the majors but has had poor results. He’s allowed 24 earned runs on 43 hits and 13 walks with 15 strikeouts. Nolin joined the Athletics as he was part of the return in the Josh Donaldson trade. Baseball Prospectus ranked him as the 97th-best prospect in baseball going into the 2013 season.
The Brewers will likely use Nolin out of the bullpen if he makes the Opening Day roster, though he has been used almost exclusively as a starter in his professional career.
