In December, the Indians announced that protective netting would be installed at Progressive Field ahead of the 2018 regular season. The netting will be extended from behind home plate to the ends of both dugouts. Canopy nets will be stretched farther down the third base line.
As MLB.com’s Anthony Castrovince reported on Wednesday, installation of the netting began. He tweeted a picture of it with a sarcastic caption:
The expanded netting is going up at Progressive Field. (You might have some trouble seeing it in this picture because, you know, you can see through netting pretty well.) pic.twitter.com/wduIGc1GAK

Indeed, one can see what’s behind the netting with virtually no intrusion whatsoever. It’s almost as if the people complaining about netting expansion didn’t actually have a good argument.
All 30 teams have said protective netting will be extended by Opening Day. It will certainly help prevent fans from being struck by errant bats and balls throughout the game.
