Chris Young re-signs with Royals for two years, $11.5 million

Chris Young

Chris Young

Chris Young was a tremendous bargain for the Royals in 2015, throwing 123 innings with a 3.06 ERA while being paid just $675,000. Now he’s staying in Kansas City for considerably more money, as Andy McCullough of the Kansas City Star reports that the 6-foot-10 right-hander has agreed to a two-year deal worth $11.5 million.

That’s still a modest price tag for a quality pitcher, but because Young is 37 years old and throws in the low-80s it also represents a solid payday for a pitcher who has been available later in the offseason and for cheaper than he ought to be several times in his career.

He’ll likely begin 2016 in the Royals’ rotation, although Young showed his versatility throughout 2015 by also faring well in a relief role when asked.
