Cross the Rangers off the list of teams pursuing James Shields

Over the weekend Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported that free agent right-hander James Shields has a five-year, $110 million offer on the table from an undisclosed team, which has led to everyone trying to figure out who that team might be.

It won’t be the Rangers, at least not according to general manager Jon Daniels, who told T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com signing Shields “is not in the cards” and “we’re not in the mix.”

Daniels has said repeatedly that he’d like to sign another veteran starting pitcher, but revealed that the Rangers have “not really” touched base with Shields and his agent since the winter meetings.
