D.J. LeMahieu signs two-year deal with Rockies, avoiding arbitration

DJ LeMahieu

Second baseman D.J. LeMahieu and the Rockies were set for a hearing today, but instead the two sides avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year contract.

Jon Heyman of reports that LeMahieu will get $3 million this season--compared to his $3.3 million request and the Rockies’ counter of $2.8 million--and $4.8 million in 2017. He’ll remain under team control through 2018 as well, so this does not change his free agency timetable.

LeMahieu made the All-Star team last season on the way to hitting .301 with six homers and a .746 OPS in 150 games. Even with Coors Field inflating his numbers LeMahieu may struggle to duplicate that production, but he’s also a plus defender with good speed.
