Starting tomorrow teams will call up minor leaguers in bunches as the big-league roster expands from 25 to 40 players for September.
While reaching the big leagues is the main attraction for most of the call-ups, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York points out another benefit: Four weeks in the majors is worth $63,421 in salary, which is about what a typical Triple-A player makes in a season.
Sure, some of the call-ups will be top-ranked prospects who already secured six- and seven-figure signing bonuses and have long futures earning big bucks in the majors, but for a lot of these guys the call-up essentially doubling their salary for the year is a pretty big deal.
