Making official what was reported yesterday, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz announced that he will retire following the 2016 season.
And he made that announcement with this video posted on the Derek Jeter-owned Players Tribune:
Ortiz is also celebrating his 40th birthday today and prefaced the video by saying: “I want the focus this season to be on the team and bringing a championship back to the city of Boston.”
