Dee Gordon is sitting out the All-Star game with a dislocated left thumb suffered Saturday, but it sounds like the Marlins don’t expect the speedy second baseman to miss much time once the second half begins.

President of baseball operations Michael Hill told Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald that the team will hold off placing him on the disabled list in the hopes that Gordon can resume playing as soon as the second series of the second half.

Hill described the injury as “not as bad as it could have been” and said the Marlins didn’t even feel it necessary to give Gordon an MRI exam to look for ligament damage.

Gordon, who also made the All-Star team last year for the Dodgers, hit .338 with 33 steals and a .772 OPS in 84 first-half games.
