Royals starter Edinson Volquez felt pretty good after tossing three hitless, scoreless innings on Tuesday afternoon’s Cactus League game against the Rockies. The right-hander threw 37 pitches, 24 for strikes, notching a pair of strikeouts in what was an easy day of work.

Volquez, 32, has had a career rebirth after spending 2014 with the Pirates under the tutelage of pitching coach Ray Searage. That year, he finished with a 3.04 ERA and followed that up with a 3.55 mark with the Royals last season. He also struck out 155 and walked 72 in 200 1/3 innings, helping the Royals win their first championship since 1985.
Volquez leads a rotation that will also include Yordano Ventura, Ian Kennedy, and Chris Young.
