Over the weekend Andy Martino of the New York Daily News wrote that Jason Isringhausen had emerged as a realistic bullpen option for the Mets--and perhaps even an eighth-inning setup candidate--after signing a minor-league deal following a tryout last month.
Unfortunately injuries have once again threatened to derail Isringhausen’s career, as Andy McCullough of the Newark Star Ledger now reports that the 38-year-old right-hander has been “shut down for the day” and “took medication” due to elbow inflammation.
Isringhausen missed most of 2009 and all of 2010 following Tommy John elbow surgery and hasn’t been healthy and effective in the same season since 2007 with the Cardinals, but the former Mets prospect looked good in six spring appearances and was throwing in the low-90s before his elbow started barking again.
